Well, here I am - starting yet another blog on the great, infinite, world wide web. So what am I doing here? Well, I recently was blessed to become a SAHW (stay at home wife). My husband, Dave, and I decided on this for quite a few reasons. One of those reasons is to develop a system of running a healthy household efficiently, joyfully, and purposefully before we add kids to the mix. Staying home full-time is a blessing, because this is something that I definitely struggle with. I now have the time and emotional resources to tackle something that has always been a huge problem for me - managing the day-to-day tasks of running a home.
So what can you expect to see here?
Anyone here familiar with Nony from A Slob Comes Clean? First, I'd just like to say that woman is amazing. Second, she is what inspired me to use a blog for keeping myself organized and accountable. Her blog started out not intending to gain a multitude of followers, but simply to hold herself accountable to goals she set in order to achieve a home free of excessive clutter. This blog will be very similar, but I also plan on expanding it outside of my cleaning and meal-planning chores. I will be posting regarding everything I do in running my household. If you look over to the sidebar, you'll see the different categories: Financial Health, Physical Health, Meal Planning, Organization, Daily Check-in, Rambles, Spiritual Health, Emotional Well-being, Family, Marriage, Pets, and Children. I'll try to keep the posts related to a single topic so that you can filter based on category if you're not interested in all the other "stuff," but sometimes things will overlap - that's life! Of course, certain topics will not be regular posts. The ones you can expect to see regularly are the five first in that list above (the side bar is alphabetized). These are the things I need to be held accountable for, these are the things that we struggle with the most in our home. The rest are in no particular order and are there because I'm not going to run multiple blogs and sometimes I just like to write about things I think are worth sharing!
What's up with the title?**
Starting a blog always takes me longer than my first post takes to write. This one was a particular challenge because I'm starting fresh with a new online identity. I had a modest blogging identity back in college with a handle I can't use anymore. It is also the name of my oldest niece and it just feels really strange. I've decided I don't want to blog with a fake name anyway. So there's also that.
My name is Jessica L.R. Derry and my family calls me Jes - with one s.
Why one s? Well, it's actually very simple. I grew up a huge gamer - video, board, card, you name it. I spent a lot of time playing online in games with high score boards, and I always put JES instead of my initials. Just because I could, I guess. I'm not sure why, but I just started spelling my name like that on everything and my parents and siblings just went with it. I've never really changed from that and still sign emails and the like with Jes or Jessica. I was trying to think of a blog title and my husband made the joke "You should use Jes, just one 's.'" I looked at him quizzically, "But that's just my name." He smiled, clarifying "No, the name could literally be 'Jes Just One S.'" I laughed, it worked, and here we are.
**It has come to my attention that I did not do my due diligence in choosing my title, turns out there is a singer/songwriter in the UK using this same title, so I went back to an old blog title of mine with Wifely Rambles.
Welcome
Well, if you actually read all this, give yourself a hug from me. Welcome to my blog, a glimpse into my crazy life. My promise to you is that I will always be honest, I simply ask for grace in return. I hope you enjoy, and maybe you can take away some things that will help you in your own life. God bless you and yours.
